Bobble-Head Caillee

Caillee with Rupert, her son with Truman.
Head shot of bobble-head Caillee with Oliver in the background.
It's true, I cut Caillee's hair right down and left her head, ears, and tail. I left a good part of her head alone so I could still put pig-tails, pony-tails, barretts, and other fun stuff in her hair. Why, what's the point of having long hair dogs if you can't play with their hair? :-)

So... for a while, Caillee had been called "Bobble-Head Caillee", because her head looks so much larger than the rest of her. Her hair is slowly growing back in and is starting to look less like a bobble-head doll but not by much.

Hand in there Caillee.... it's just hair.

Caillee is My Soul Dog, who could ask for more?

I feel so blessed to have a Havanese like Caillee. I have been sick for a week and when I get a chance to take things easy and rest, Caillee is there keeping me company. I could be watching TV and there she is beside me resting beside me knowing I don’t have the energy to go anywhere or do anything, and she is ok with that. Her eyes tell me that it is ok and that I should rest while I have the chance.

It has been a difficult month with the recent passing of a family member, the same month my dog died two years ago, and dealing with a nasty head cold. Caillee has been there for me. Keeping me company and encouraging me to get up and pick up. Caillee is my soul dog and she knows me from inside out. Who could ask for a better dog than my Caillee?

I am so thankful Caillee is my dog and she is always there for me.

A trip with Caillee and Oliver to the CERF Clinic

Caillee and Oliver took a little trip to the CERF clinic today after my full day work.  Caillee and Oliver stopped by my work and then we all went in my car the rest of the way.

First Caillee was looked at by the vet.  The vet turned off all the lights in his examination room.  He placed on his head gear and used some sort of magnifying lens to look very closely at her eyes.  He also use some other device.  It looked like he was looking at her eyes through this white contraption.   The vet turned on the lights and said that all way fine with Caillee.

Now it was Oliver's turn.  The sames things were done to him but the vet tech and I had to hold him in place a bit.  The vet said that Oliver was being well behaved for 7 months and for his first time.  He too passed.

The biggest deal about the whole things was the drive back through Toronto's rush hour traffic.

Before these results can be posted on the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals(OFFA) website, I have to fill out  the back of the paperwork and send them in to Canine Eye Registration Foundation (CERF) for processing.  That will have to be done on another day....

A wonderful shot of Caillee

Wow, what a great shot of Caillee with all her blowing in the wind. You can barely see her eyes.

Hubby went for a walk with Caillee down to the park, near the lake.

It’s a tough life having the lake breeze through your hair, you poor thing.

Dog names

A friend lent me a book titled "Dog Names, Over 1,000 grrreat names" by Jenny Linford and the only name closest to Caillee's own name was "Kali, for destructive females; after the Hindu goddness". Destructive, uh? Well now, I have replaced more toys ever since Caillee started living with us.... not because she destroyed all of Josie's old toys but any of the new ones I got just for her. See Caillee in the photo with the pink Barbie purse, it was ruined in 15 minutes after it arrived.

Today's Update

Caillee got a complete brush out and could be ready for a long over due bath tomorrow.

The puppies got a visitor today, one of their future moms. They played and played while they were visited. And slept and slept afterwards. Some photos were taken but don't hold your breath for anything.... it's so hard to take pictures of puppies when are running around, unless you like looking at blurs of colours.

Each puppy was given a new toy: one moos, one says bla, and two roar. Lucky Caillee got attention, lots of cookies, and more attention.

Caillee helped me clean up the kitchen while Josie supervised us from the living room.

Josie wasn't allowed in bedroom for a long while

In the first week of the puppies' lives Josie wasn't allowed in the bedroom. The door way was as far as Josie could get.

During one priceless moment, Caillee got closer to Josie, Josie took a step back as if there was an imaginary line behind the door way.

Now, Josie is allowed in the room. She is allowed a direct line from the door way to the bed. Sorry Josie but Caillee sets the rules for you for the next while.

A little update on Caillee

Caillee is not normally a fussy eater. As a matter of fact, I have often commented how Caillee could eat anything, anytime, and any amount, preferably lots. During Caillee’s pregnancy, I used (Raw/uncooked) chicken wings as treats after taking her temperature. Guess where you need to take the temperature on a dog... yeah right, she enjoyed that so hence the chicken wing treats to make her efforts to stand still worth it.

Now after her pregnancy, she doesn’t want chicken wings anymore, or

Caillee had her puppies

Caillee had her puppies tonight, beside some misguided temperature readings and Caillee being a day off of her due date Caillee and her puppies seem ok.

First few days are critical and it is getting late and everyone, ok me, needs some rest. I hope to provide more details tomorrow.

Can feel puppies!

Today I could feel Caillee’s puppies. I gentle put my hands on her tummy and held them there for a while. I didn’t have to wait too long before I could feel some movement.

The movements I felt along her tummy are her puppies. I have to admit, it is a joy to feel her tiny puppies moving about.

Now, I am counting down the day before these little puppies will join us. It’s exciting!

To shave or not to shave, tis today’s question....

Caillee is pregnant and is going to have puppies sometime next week. Time seems to just fly by as her due date comes close.

I have been cutting her hair on her underside down very short. I am going to see about keeping the rest of her hair long and just cutting her belly hair down. Her belly is so big.

For a pregnant doggie girl she is doing fine: doing lots of sleeping and lots of eating.

Most people tend to cut most of the hair off while their girl is going to have puppies, it just makes things easier. I am going to see how long I can hold off cutting all her hair off.

Other than that, is has been a very quite 'Family Day'....

Traveling with Caillee Update

Caillee and I did a trip together a while back and I have been dying to talk about it but life has been very busy. Our trip took all day each way and it was just Caillee and I. I have never travelled that far before all by myself. AND we did it!

I needed to travel that far so I could have Caillee meet up with a nice stud I hope will compliment Caillee in many ways.

I was really worried at first to travel so far with just me and a dog. After a few stops, Caillee and I got into a good rhythm. I would stop and I would run in and take a potty break first, pick up anything I wanted or needed from the convenience store (most places had one). Then, I would take Caillee for a walk, sometimes a run.

I think we might have been a sight with the two of us running, a woman running with a long haired dog with pretty bows in her hair. Did I forget to mention the pink leash?

After our walk (or run), we would jump into the car and I would fill up on gas before I drive off for another two or three hours. I read somewhere when travelling with pets it is recommended to stop every two hours for a potty break and a stretch. I think I stopped about every two hours during our trip there. Caillee was very content to stay put, she is a very, scratch that, great car traveller. It was me who needed to stop every two hours. I was worried I would push myself too hard and not be able to complete the trip.

After a while I realized I was doing ok, Caillee and I were doing ok. I think with all the commuting to Toronto every day I have been doing, driving all day didn't seem like such a big deal anymore.

I also took my friends advice of only drinking and eating lightly, snacking would be even better. She said if I was to do a big meal, I might feel real tired after a while and that would not be good... no relief driver.

As for an update, I think the trip was successful. I do believe Caillee is pregnant!!! Yes, you heard it here first.

Just Caillee

We were out on some park somewhere and here is Caillee just doing what she does best.... just hanging around.

You can see here Caillee is being all fashionable in spite of herself. Her human mommy put in some nice elastics in her hair in a neat little design.

Chocolate Chip Cookie for Lunch

Caillee found some really interesting thing in mom’s lunch bag this morning.

Caillee always like to assist in the helping of all meals and it doesn’t matter the meal or who is eating it. It could be breakfast, lunch, dinner, snack, picnic baskets, or even a lunch for work.

Today was that moment, a lunch for work, just laying on the floor ready to grab and toss into the car.

Caillee always checks each and every bag for anything that might smell so wonderful and really, mom should have known.

Today, she found a large cookie. A cookie with chocolate chips mixed in it. So what if it was covered in plastic, that could easily be taken care of.

Oh, how delicious it was. How ever so scrumptious it was. “Now, just why was this cookie taken away form me?”, Caillee thought. So not fair the thought.

Where is Caillee?

You may not realize this but the basket has a bunch of pillow in it and it is located under the dresser drawers you might be able to see in the photo above, its the dark wood. All the pillows are there to 'get them out of the way' and I couldn't image any room for any pet there.
Caillee nosed her way inbetween the pillows, turn herself around, and stick her head out from in between the pillows.
It was a favourite spot before I moved it away.

41 days and counting...

Forty-one days today and counting, still no sign of Hyacinth’s ashes. I am hearing from everyone else but Norm himself.

What conclusions am I suppose to draw at this point?

All I can think of right now is how it is affecting me emotionally and how all this feels. It feels ugly.

Christmas Cards!

Caillee helped me this year to send out Christmas cards.

Caillwas was very insistent that she be on my lap.

Later the cat put his stamp of approval on them before we sent them out.

Caillee and I had a really fun day today.

Caillee and I had a really fun day today. The day started off with a late morning class of Rally-O that Caillee and I attend; where I also assist the class by setting up the Rally-O course, tear it down at the end of class, and anything else as needed. Caillee just has to watch me while I do this. Then we both had an obedience class together right afterwards. I do believe the reason we were having so much fun at class is because I was being much freer with the treats. Not crying “at a drop of a hat” might also help.

Both Josie and Hyacinth have/had toys they really liked that I used in training and treats too of course. I have such trouble finding Caillee’s button without food, food seems to be her button. I kept feeling I was doing something wrong if my only button was food. Caillee really likes squeaky toys but she destroys them in one day – the fabric and squeaky part. There is this red bone caillee seems to like these days that I purchased form the dollar store so I went back and bought them out of the red bone squeaky toys.

After talking to a friend of mine who does a lot of agility, she assured me that it is ok that Caillee is completely food driven. So I was freer with the treats today.

After a fun class of Rally-O followed by a fun class of Obedience, the fun doesn’t end there today. To kill some time, Caillee and I whipped by MacDonald’s drive through. Caillee seemed very excited, when I do this I share my fries with Caillee. Her eyes scream “Yummy”!

Caillee says "oh.. all the fries are gone...."
