About my little Havanese Cailleach

Besides being a ‘cute as a button’, Cailleach is a Havanese from Nathalie Tremblay of MystykalSky of New Brunswick (www.mystykalsky.com); and her parents are Ch. Twins Hycrest Ever Reddi & Mystykalsky Pheobelus Twins. You will have to go to www.hydabrek.com to check out her pedigree.

Originally Nathalie was going to keep Cailleach but was finding that she was going to be a handful and thought it would best to find a home that would show her and possibly do other activities with her like agility or obedience (canine sports); family that could possibly keep up to her. A mutual friend of ours was visiting Nathalie in New Brunswick and suggested that I may make a good home for Cailleach.

Nathalie had already named her Calleach but I changed it a bit to Cailleach Bheur after the Scottish goddess or a great sorceress of British Folklore said to be the protector of plants and small animals. I like that version the best and that it what I would normally tell people when asked about her name. However, other version of the name Cailleach is that is was a blue hag or witch. Her full name is MystykalSky’s Cailleach Bheur

Well, Cailleach is neither blue nor a hag but a beautiful black female Havanese dog. She will be a year old next April 27th. Though I had a handler show her last time and will have the same handler show her the next few shows (Calgary and Brandon again); I will show her at Winnipeg held shows so I can build my own show handling confidence.

I showed her during our first outing (last November) and she did a wonderful job; she even got her first point. I just wished I would have stopped shaking. Her last and second dog show outing was at Brandon this past weekend with Laurel Skuba (www.pawsh.biz) where she gained 8 point in total for the whole weekend. I am still in shock!

Well that my little Caillee-girl.

My Job as a Therapy Dog

My name is Josie and I am a Bolognese. Every week I get to be a therapy dog for an hour at a local nursing home. I get to meet tons and tons of people AND everyone seems to have doggie treats to give me.

My most requested dog trick is to do a little dance; it's quit the crowd pleaser I must say. But honestly it wouldn't matter what I did, all my adoring fans love me.

My mom always grooms me before going out to the nursing home, making sure I look my very best for my fans. As my mother grooms me I always reminder her that my fans won't mind what I look like; but, she never listening to me about that and so I never seem to get out of getting groomed. I am still working on her.

Every year, my mother gets to go to a fancy dinner party to recognise those who volunteer at the nursing home; I don't understand why since I do all the work and I never get invited. Honestly, how rude is that?

Well, I am off to another session to greet my fans, eat dog tricks, and I will try not to have too much fun - it’s a job you know!

Dear Girls, please read this ASAP

Dear Josie and Cailleach:
(My little Bichon Bolognese and my little Bichon Havanese)

The dishes with the paw print are yours and contain your food. The other dishes are mine and contain my food. Please note, placing a paw print in the middle of my plate and food does not stake a claim for it becoming your food and dish, nor do I find that aesthetically pleasing in the slightest.

I cannot buy anything bigger than a king sized bed. I am very sorry about this. Do not think I will continue sleeping on the couch to ensure your comfort. Dogs can actually curl up in a ball when they sleep. It is not necessary to sleep perpendicular to each other stretched out to the fullest extent possible. I also know that sticking tails straight out and having tongues hanging out the other end to maximize space is nothing but sarcasm.

For the last time, there is not a secret exit from the bathroom. If by some miracle I beat you there and manage to get the door shut, it is not necessary to claw, whine, bark, and try to turn the knob or get your paw under the edge and try to pull the door open. I must exit through the same door I entered. Also, I have been using the bathroom for years --canine attendance is not mandatory.

The proper order is kiss me and then go smell the other dog's butt; I cannot stress this enough!

All Non-Pet Owners Who Visit & Like to Complain About Our Pets

Please read the following very carefully:

1. They live here. You don't.

2. If you don't want their hair on your clothes, stay off the furniture. (That's why they call it "fur"niture.)

3. I like my pets a lot better than I like most people.

4. To you, it's an animal. To me, he/she is an adopted son/daughter who is short, hairy, walks on all fours and doesn't call me rude names.

Remember: Dogs are better than kids because they:

1. Eat less

2. Don't ask for money all the time

3. Are easier to train

4. Usually come when called

5. Never drive your car

6. Don't hang out with drug-using friends

7. Don't smoke or drink

8. Don't worry about having to buy the latest fashions

9. Don't wear your clothes

10. Don't need a gazillion dollars for college,

There has got to be alternatives to baths....

Are baths really necessary? With all the conditioners my mom uses everyone always says I smell so nice. So if I always smell nice, there really isn’t a need for baths. I don’t need to get my fur trimmed, I looked before hand. I don’t need my nails done; honestly, I don’t need a manicure or a pedicure. I can stop being a princess for a day or too if mom can promise to stop fussing with me. I sometimes hear mom tell others that if she didn’t want to fuss with brushing and grooming dogs she wouldn’t have gotten heavy grooming type of dogs. Why can she be like other moms who clip down their dog’s coats…. I won’t mind. I am not that vain despite what you may think.

If anyone has any suggestions on how I can stop my mom from grooming me I would be very grateful.

Josie

News from the Show so far....

I received an e-mail this morning from the handler. News from the dog show front so far is that Cailleach took Best of Breed, 3rd in Group, and Best Puppy in Group on Friday. Saturday Cailleach took Best of Breed again, 3rd in Group this time. I can’t wait until I hear from Sunday’s new which will be tonight.

Apparently she is having lots of fun and showing her little heart out!

P.S. I hope she has taken pictures!

Cailleach at the Crocus Obedience and Kennel Club show

My little Havanese, Cailleach, is on her own and is at the Crocus Obedience and Kennel Club as I type this. I really wonder how she is doing and how she is making out at the show. There are very few dogs that were entered in this show so that could be a good thing or bad – depends on how you want to look at it.

The biggest question of all, does she miss me? I so miss her. I can’t wait until tomorrow night when I get to pick her up and see her again. And to find out how things went.

Josie, my Bichon Bolognese, may never admit that she misses Cailleach but I know she does. At the very least, she may miss the company of the other dog.

Cailleach is hanging out with the handler this weekend

I called to check up on Cailleach and she is doing fine. She even got to sleep in their bed, under the covers too - she already has them spoiling her. Boy, that Cailleach works fast!

Josie is enjoying the quit house agian

Caillee's first show on her own..... and mom's a basket case

Caillee is my Havanese show dog. She is nine months now and ready to be doing all dog shows. I have hired a handler, L, to take my Caillee to out of town dog shows. Mainly because I lack the confidence to do it on my own and a reliable vehicle; and I will do the local shows so I do get my practice and build-up my own confidence level. L came highly recommended and I am confident Caillee will be in good hands. I will be dropping her off at the handler’s house this Wednesday, early enough for L to groom and bond with Caillee before the show.

She will be fine and she will most likely have all sorts of fun on her own – so why am I acting like a basket case? I am going to miss her; we will be parted from each other. My shadow won’t be my shadow for few days. AAHHH!

Completely losing it,

February 10, 2006

Yesterday was mommy’s birthday. There was such a big hubbub made about it. Really the attention should really be on me. I am mommy’s girl after all! Daddy made a candlelight dinner for mommy and even had a chocolate cake which they did not share with us. I bet they won’t even share the leftovers with us either.

But waiting does pay off, later on in the day daddy shared some whipped cream with me. Just me, I even got some red fruity things which were kind of yummy. So you see, I am daddy’s girl after all.
