Havanese Puppies have Arrived.

I am pleased to announced the arrival of Caillee & Truman puppies. Caillee had 3 boys and 1 girl last night.

All are doing well: feeding and resting. Caillee, mom, is doing well also. I heard Truman is passing cigars around to all his doggie buddies.

Caillee had her puppies

Caillee had her puppies tonight, beside some misguided temperature readings and Caillee being a day off of her due date Caillee and her puppies seem ok.

First few days are critical and it is getting late and everyone, ok me, needs some rest. I hope to provide more details tomorrow.

Caillee will do anything for raw chicken!

Thank goodness Caillee will do or tolerate anything for a piece of raw chicken wing. As Caillee gets closer to her due date I have to take her temperature every so often during the day to help pin point her due date.

Of course any chicken I give my dog has to be raw and fresh, not cooked even in the slightly.

Can feel puppies!

Today I could feel Caillee’s puppies. I gentle put my hands on her tummy and held them there for a while. I didn’t have to wait too long before I could feel some movement.

The movements I felt along her tummy are her puppies. I have to admit, it is a joy to feel her tiny puppies moving about.

Now, I am counting down the day before these little puppies will join us. It’s exciting!

Chocolates and other sinful foods...

We humans can eat a variety of food and so can dog but unfortunately there are some foods that are considered toxic and should be avoided.

Chocolate – Our favourite sweet goodness is toxic to dogs. Sad but true. A little won’t hurt them but they will develop a taste for it and want more. For these little dogs, a whole chocolate bar could be could be dangerous for them. My Josie got into a box of Turtles once and had about three of them we think. She was very hyper for the rest of the day. We did call up our vet and explained what happened and received his advice if we should come in or not. If the same thing happens to you, it is always recommended to give your vet a call.

Onions – I don’t know how much of an onion cooked or raw can be dangerous to dogs. It would be safe to say avoid when possible.

Grapes – Some say grapes are toxic to dogs. I am not sure so I avoid it when possible.

Tomatoes – I personally do not think this one is true only because I often see tomatoes listed in some commercial dog foods. This one you may have to do your own research on.

What everyone can agree on is chocolates and dogs shouldn't mix!

Cali covered in Snow....

Can you tell who this is? Caillee? Maybe. She sure looks like Caillee.

It's Cali. Notice the spelling and pronunciation.

Cail, as in Rail. Lee, as in Bruce Lee. Kail - Lee.... Caillee

Cal, as in Kal. E. Kal - E. Cali.

Cali is one of Caillee's puppies.

Cali is the spitting image of Caillee, even with all the snow. You can totally tell.

I am not sure where Cali was to be covered in so much snow. Around the Niagara area, the weather doesn't seem all that cold, or not as cold as it could or should be.

Just think, If Caillee, Josie, and the rest of the pack was still living in Winnipeg, we would be covered in ten feet of snow (or close to it). I don't even know where my snow boots are, take that Winnipeg!

Empty Jar of Peanut Butter = Very Fun Afternoon

It's always a fun time at this house when the jar of peanut butter is empty because it isn't ever really empty until someone licks it all clean!

Normally Josie's gets first crack the empty jar but with Caillee being pregnant, it just seem fitting she should get first crack at it. She didn't share not once with Josie, the little piggy.

At one point I was sitting beside Caillee and she was using my leg as leverage to hold the jar steady. She got so far in the jar her head got a tad stuck. It was funny. I pulled the jar off with ease.

Eventually I had to take the jar away.

Havanese At Westminster (Video)

Nice to see wonderful looking Havanese out and a few Canadian Havanese entries too!

You don't often see corded Havanese, where all their hair is corded, there is one in this video.

Most of the Havanese look like they were having a good time and that important, especially at a big show like this one.

To shave or not to shave, tis today’s question....

Caillee is pregnant and is going to have puppies sometime next week. Time seems to just fly by as her due date comes close.

I have been cutting her hair on her underside down very short. I am going to see about keeping the rest of her hair long and just cutting her belly hair down. Her belly is so big.

For a pregnant doggie girl she is doing fine: doing lots of sleeping and lots of eating.

Most people tend to cut most of the hair off while their girl is going to have puppies, it just makes things easier. I am going to see how long I can hold off cutting all her hair off.

Other than that, is has been a very quite 'Family Day'....

Josie got a major hair cut...

In light of Caillee expecting puppies and the depends which that may entail, it was decided that Josie needed a hair cut, a major one.

We cut all her hair off except for her ears and tail. Yes, it's winter but it is not like we live in Winterpeg anymore and Josie has more sweaters and jackets than most people. Josie now has to wear at least a sweater when going outside, she doesn't mind.

Here is Josie on the sofa using my shawl to hide from the shame of losing all her hair.

Caillee finds out how many puppies she may might have....

Caillee took a trip to the vet with me after work today. It was a little early to take xrays but we found out Caillee has at least 3 puppies and possibly four puppies. Very exciting. Caillee had a lot of over the counter treats which made her time at the vet very enjoyable.

Caillee is doing well...

My poor Caillee is so big and is so heavy. I should weigh her and see how big she really is.

She is approximately 6 ½ weeks pregnant with what I hope to be the cutest Havanese puppies ever.

I had placed my hands on her belly and I still don’t feel a thing. Yesterday I thought I might have felt a puppy move in her tummy but it most likely was my imagination. She has a broad front and therefore can easily hide puppies.

As I recall from last time she had puppies, I didn’t notice any puppies until about 7 or so weeks of her pregnancy. Sigh…

Traveling with Caillee Update

Caillee and I did a trip together a while back and I have been dying to talk about it but life has been very busy. Our trip took all day each way and it was just Caillee and I. I have never travelled that far before all by myself. AND we did it!

I needed to travel that far so I could have Caillee meet up with a nice stud I hope will compliment Caillee in many ways.

I was really worried at first to travel so far with just me and a dog. After a few stops, Caillee and I got into a good rhythm. I would stop and I would run in and take a potty break first, pick up anything I wanted or needed from the convenience store (most places had one). Then, I would take Caillee for a walk, sometimes a run.

I think we might have been a sight with the two of us running, a woman running with a long haired dog with pretty bows in her hair. Did I forget to mention the pink leash?

After our walk (or run), we would jump into the car and I would fill up on gas before I drive off for another two or three hours. I read somewhere when travelling with pets it is recommended to stop every two hours for a potty break and a stretch. I think I stopped about every two hours during our trip there. Caillee was very content to stay put, she is a very, scratch that, great car traveller. It was me who needed to stop every two hours. I was worried I would push myself too hard and not be able to complete the trip.

After a while I realized I was doing ok, Caillee and I were doing ok. I think with all the commuting to Toronto every day I have been doing, driving all day didn't seem like such a big deal anymore.

I also took my friends advice of only drinking and eating lightly, snacking would be even better. She said if I was to do a big meal, I might feel real tired after a while and that would not be good... no relief driver.

As for an update, I think the trip was successful. I do believe Caillee is pregnant!!! Yes, you heard it here first.
