Hyacinth on her way to becoming a Canadian champion

Today Hyacinth Bucket (Bouquet) earned her very first point towards becoming a Canadian champion. This weekend was her first dog show and are only goal this weekend was to get used to the noises, the buzz and speed of a dog show. Its always one thing to practice well at home and do well in class, but a whole different thing to do all your training with a live audience, new noises, and a nervous handler, mom. By the second day, Hyacinth was having so much fun with this 'dog show' thing, even one of the judges had commented that she was a bundle of energy and looked like she was having a grand old time. She certainly was. To me its important that she enjoys being in the ring and that it can be a fun experience - I think we accomplished just that, the Winners Ribbon today was just an added bonus. Good job Hyacinth!!!!

A little update on Cali

Cali’s mom reports that Cali is soon to start beginner obedience. She was doing so well in puppy classes that it just seemed natural to continue on. She has lots of doggie friends in class and she seems so intentive in class too. She's extremely clever and picks up new things at a very rapid rate; looks like she finds the classes stimulating.

Cali now has freedom in the house (under supervision, of course) and loves it.

Cali’s mom is teaching Cali not to bark and so far seems to be working (somewhat). If she can learn all sorts of new things in class, she can certainly learn this. Cali’s mom says that Cali can be so funny sometimes, Cali is now starting to make little funny noises instead of barking. Smart girl, sounds like she is trying to work around the system.

Her little sister, Hyacinth, says hi and so does Caillee; and also adds “wash your ears and brush your teeth”…. Moms, good grief.

Hyacinth At Her Very First Fun Match

Hyacinth did very well for herself yesterday at a conformation fun match, Red River Terrier Association. It was her very first one. At first she was nervous and a bit shy but she soon loosened up. I even got her enjoying being in the ring, when the practicing judge wasn’t looking we played together – I had her hopping about. I even had her tail nice and high for the judge. What a good girl she was. During sweeps, the practicing judge mentioned to me as we were walking out of the ring that she showed very well. I thought so too. Not because I’m mummy and I am biases, that too but she was standing nice and steady with her tail up most of the time.

During the regular conformation fun match, Hyacinth received a group first placement and won some pretty nifty prizes: a small bed and a travel coffee-mug. I hope she won’t mind me using the mug, when we travel to dog shows of course. After that, she received a reserve puppy in match award. While we were in the ring for that, I felt she had enough but it was a bit late to pull out now… almost finished and all. Well she received a box of cookies for her troubles, poor thing.

It was good to see her enjoying herself. Since it was her first time out to any sort of thing like this I wasn’t sure how she was going to behave. I also wasn’t expecting to stay for so long either. Hehehe.

After we got home, Josie decided that the bed was hers and that’s that. Oh well, perhaps Josie will appreciate more, if nothing else, just for all the cookies you can bring home. ;-)

Caillee gets the full bath treatment

Enough was enough, I decided that Caillee needed a full bath treatment, the works! Wash, blow-dry, nails, and a bow in her hair. Oh, I should have taken a photo, never think of these things at the time. She looked amazing afterwards. I bet she felt better too. Who doesn’t feel amazing after visiting their hair dresser, even if your hair dresser is mom. I even trimmed the hair in-between her toes. I could have put her in a show afterwards – she looked so good.

Josie gets a massage

I friend of mine was over last Friday night and we were chatting away, Josie was getting a back massage. As we chatted, I watch Josie. She looked like she was the most happiest dog in the universe. She had a smile from ear to ear; and every time my friend stopped, Josie turned her head around wanting more.

It was adorable to watch.

Mim Update

Isn’t this the cutest little pumpkin girl? This is Mim with an little elastic in her hair. Her mom sent me a photo and I thought I would post to for all to see. What a lovely looking girl.

She is getting along with her other doggie brother and sister; and everything just loves her. No matter where she goes, she seems to make everyone smile. Soon she will be doing some doggie classes, which I am sure she will enjoy.

Her litter-mate, Hyacinth, says hi.
